OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. — The shelter-in-place order has affected many different industries, and car sales have not been spared.
And it’s not just local dealerships, carmakers are rolling out programs to entice people to purchase vehicles too.
That may include incentives like 0 percent financing for up to 84 months and 90-day payment deferments.
“This is as close to 2001 after 9/11 as we have seen as far as manufacturers – Honda, Hyundai, Nissan – doing their part to keep the economy rolling,” said Kevin Cook, general manager of Straub Automotive.
But a step the dealership took last year has also been a major help.
Customers are able to shop and buy cars online, without any assistance from people outside their homes,
Cook said it’s been huge in making sure those who can’t or don’t want to leave the house can still purchase a vehicle – all done over the web.
“Once you decide that is the way you want to go, you simply send it to us, we prepare the documents, send you the documents, you sign them online and we set up a delivery for your vehicle or you can pick it up here at the dealership,” he said.
Cook is expecting to see sales shoot back up when the economy opens again.
And the dealership is excited to see all kinds of stores opening soon.
“We were very fortunate to be considered essential, but as far as we’re concerned everyone’s essential and we look forward to seeing everyone open as soon as possible.”
